Democracy is Two Wolves and A Sheep Deciding What is for Dinner

Many people throw the term "Democracy" around recklessly without really knowing what it means.  True freedom is not "The Greatest Good for the Greatest Number of People" but rather complete and total dominion over your own life without government interference.  This called a Republican for of government; where the government works for you instead of you working for it.

In such a system your life, your time, your money belongs to you.  Private ownership of property is a guaranteed right.  The freedom of choice is a guaranteed right.  The right to self defense is a right.  Your wealth can not be redistributed to others at the point of a gun.

Anything other than this is tyranny.

I think there is a degree of naivete in this. You assume that nothing will come along to shake the happy scene, e.g. a coup. This is less likely to happen in the democracy because everyone has the chance to influence who shall lead them. Common feeling comes to the fore and wins out, assuming that sufficient numbers feel the same way. Tyranny comes along only if a leader imposes him/herself on the people without their wishing it; something that could happen in your republic but not in a true democracy.

A simple question: Do you watch TV?  I do not.  I rest my case.  Much of what people think is democracy comes from how your beliefs have been shaped.  Where I live, in Europe, is considered to be very democratic.  But the people have no say so what so ever of their own lives.  Is this democracy?

My friend a local farmer is one of the few people who owns farm land.  A river flows through his property.  The water from the mountain above has been funneled into a pipe which goes out to the sea.  Now he has no water to irrigate his crops.  They wanted to force him off his land.

A well can not be drilled without a license.  They do not issue licenses.  Therefore, no water for his crops.  Is this what you mean by democracy?  The good of the many versus the needs of a few?

Now we must buy our food at the global supermarket which is beyond the control of our community and the money of this community is no longer circulating within it but has been siphoned into a blackhole.

This is not only my case but this is the case for most people all who believe in anything labeled "democracy".

Comments please

I wonder what country this can be, where the ones in power act as you have described? You don't say what protest your farmer friend has made in response to his treatment. Has he/she appealed to the local political representative? If this hasn't been tried then you are failing to operate the democratic system. If the appeal to the politicians fails, I guess there is the law to try next. Ultimately the case could be raised with the EU's judicial system (democracy again).

You are right about democracy, but democracy doesn't means to give the freedom for individuals, it prefer universal needs.

Hope your friend  willing to sacrifice for the sake of public interests.

I think Ex-huyton should be the first in line to sacrifice himself for the benefit of the planet. Sort of like the needs of the many should out weigh the wants of the few.

That's rather unfair of you to make that accusation for it is not what I said. In democracy there is a strong chance that your situation, when publicised, will receive sympathy from others, who may then protest in your support. This is less likely to happen in a dictatorship.

it sound reasonable for the stronger that one can hold one's property on his free will, just as republicans adocated.but for the disadvantaged rank of people, social or governmental reajustment is necessary.do you consent this with me?

I am not an authoritarian.  I do not believe in survival of the fittest.  I am a Libertarian.  I believe in live and let live.  Government should only be there to take out the trash and clean the streets.
