Morning, i have just had my daughter on the phone crying uncontrollably as the bailiffs have clamped her car and want £800 to release it NOW!!! She is a single parent and cannot afford this fine.
She received a fine in the post for £60 for stopping in a yellow box (which she said she would never do, but had to because she was waiting for another car to go in front of her). She then received a further fine of £165 and thought she could sort it out when she got back from her 2 week holiday and set up a payment plan. When she returned from holiday she had a further fine of £473 waiting for her sent by the Bailiffs. She rang the Bailiffs and they told her they couldn't organise such a plan and she should call Head Office, which she did and they told her she needed to speak to the Baillifs direct (which she told them she had). She called the Bailiff again (Mr Freeman) and he said he would email his boss regarding a payment plan. This was on Monday 11th August. She said she had no contact with him until a phone call at 8am this morning telling her he was in her 'secure' car park and had clamped her car and wanted a payment of £800 on the spot or he would take the car. She rang me in tears and I have now transferred this amount into her account so she could pay. I want to know if what the Bailiff did was legal? as he said if she didn't pay the guys were on their way to take her car away.
