Sometimes a good old-fashioned dictionary is better than the web.

1. "Advocacy of a classless society in which private ownership has been abolished and the means of production and subsistence belong to the community."
2. "Any social, economic or political movement or doctrine aimed at achieving such a society."
3. "A political movement based upon the writings of Marx that considers history in terms of class conflict and revolutionary struggle, resulting eventually in the victory of the proletariat and the establishment of a socialist order based on public-ownership of the means of production. See also Marxism, Marxism-Leninism, socialism."
4. "A social order or system of government established by a ruling Communist Party, esp. in the Soviet Union." [You can tell that my dictionary is pre-1989]
5. "(In U.S.) Any leftist political activity or thought, esp. when considered to be subversive." [Note: The U.S. even disliked the socialism that the Attlee government brought in in 1945]
6. "Communal living; communalism."

I hope your interest is merely academic. If not, please study the lives of Joseph Stalin and Mao tse Tung before you fall in love with the idea. Pol Pot too (the Cambodian killing fields).

Try looking up 'Collectivism".  Also read Marx and Engels.  There is plenty of information on the we.  How about the Communist Manifesto founder here: http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1848/communist-manifesto/

Let me know if you need more help.

In the USSR wasn't neither communism, nor a socialism. And there was an elementary dictatorship. Communism and socialism by whom aren't established. All is very simple. You know that the slaveholding system became obsolete as it was economically not favorable. Anybody didn't cancel slaves, they were cancelled by evolutionary development and economy. Now capitalism is in blossoming of the forces. But there will come the moment when for all community of Earth, the capitalism structure, becomes economically unprofitable. Also it is natural regularity, which not to cancel. When capitalism becomes economically unprofitable, other formation will come to change. It is natural that someone from our descendants, will observe as the remains capitalism, in any country, will furiously resist as it occurred in the USA. But new formations owing to natural laws will inevitably come in stead of the old. What laws of development in this new formation will be? There is a set of models. It is precisely possible to tell that it will differ from capitalism, the same as capitalism differs from a slaveholding system.

Communism can not be defined with a single definition. There are multiple aspects of Communism. But you may try getting a more precise and globally acceptable definition of communism as it is practiced in China, North Korea and Russia.
Some key aspects of Communism are:-
1. Communists do not believe in God and religion. Both this things are considered outdated and anti-social in communism.
2. Communism straightly disowns Classes in society and promotes strict equality.
3. Communism guarantees right to food, right to equality and right to express(with some conditions).
4. Communism can be seen as an advanced form of socialism with some authoritarian gesture.
5. Democratic principles are strictly refused and discouraged.
6. Any agitation against communist ideology is met with stringent punishment.

Communism and Socialism are very similar except Communism extols the virtues of violent revolution as the only legitimate form able to dislodge the bourgeoise.  This is clearly stated in the writings of Lenin.  Interestingly, Russia is no longer a Communist country and America and Europe is becoming more of a Communist country.

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable" John F. Kennedy

"Communism is not love. Communism is a hammer which we use to crush the enemy." - Mao Zedong

"The goal of socialism is communism." - Vladimir Lenin

"For us in Russia, communism is a dead dog, while, for many people in the West, it is still a living lion." - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

"Socialism is the same as Communism, only better English." - George Bernard Shaw

The theory of Communism may be summed up in one sentence: Abolish all private property. ... Let the ruling classes tremble at a communist revolution. - Karl Marx

"Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun." - Mao Zedong

One death is a tragedy; one million is a statistic.
Joseph Stalin

When we hang the capitalists they will sell us the rope we use.
Joseph Stalin

You cannot make a revolution with silk gloves.
Joseph Stalin

"The way to crush the bourgeoisie is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation." - Vladimir Lenin

"Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted." - Vladimir Lenin

Democracy is the road to socialism.
Karl Marx

The production of too many useful things results in too many useless people.
Karl Marx

The theory of Communism may be summed up in one sentence: Abolish all private property.
Karl Marx

The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism.
Karl Marx

The first requisite for the happiness of the people is the abolition of religion.
Karl Marx

Here is a quote from http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Communism which sums up my understanding:

"Communism is a far-left ideology of people who believe that the economy develops in historical stages and with social classes and class conflict. Communist ****ysis maintains that feudalism, led by aristocrats, was transformed through class conflict with the bourgeoisie (business people) into capitalism, and that capitalism through class conflict between the bourgeosie and the proletariat (working class) would lead to the creation of socialism and communism led by the proletariat. Communists believe that the "means of production" should be owned and controlled by the proletariat."
