We recently invited a neighbor couple over for coffee.  The purpose of the get together was to get to know each other.  Mike and Renee are a lovely couple.  Recently married and operating an online business as well as Renee working part time as an editor.

Mike told us that both he and Renee had high blood pressure.  He said they had been walking every day to help lower their blood pressure and lose weight.   Renee, unfortunately, weighed 170 (85) pounds.  She said that she was a vegetarian.

Renee also told us that her father had died of diabetes at the age of 84 and that her sister had just had a stroke because her sister had stopped taking her medicine and did not eat properly.  She also stated that obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes were in the “genes” of her family.  Mike admitted that he liked beer and he enjoyed eating sliced ham and bread sandwiches and pizza.  The couple said that they often ate potatoes and rice as part of their dinner meal.  They said that they drank fresh squeezed orange juice daily to be healthy.

Being a health consultant I could not hold my tongue.  I attempted to dispel a few of the myths that this youngish couple were believing in.  What I had to say was not welcomed by the couple and Mike had said that my “truths” were a matter of opinion and therefore were not valid.  Neither of them appreciated my comments that chronic diseases were not genetic but rather a matter of nutrition.

I further said that Psoriasis was caused by diet.  That he needed to identify what was upsetting his digestion and eliminate those foods from his diet.  Mike informed us that he had no digestive symptoms.  I responded that it was virtually impossible to have a skin disease such as psoriasis without a digestive trigger because 80% of the immune system was in the gut and if anything compromises the gut it would show up as other symptoms even the skin.   Just because the skin shows the sickness does not mean that the skin is the problem.

He said all he needed was some cream to put on his face.  I again explained that once he eliminated foods which were bad for him and began to supplement properly his psoriasis would go away.  Mike was having none of that.  He refused to accept the idea that beer (probably containing aspartame);  bread, grain and flour (destroying the gut and full of starches), cooking oil (rancid and promotes free radical damage), orange juice (fructose is processed by the liver and if you have fructose malabsorption every disease known is possible); rice and potatoes (fast burning carbohydrates feeding cancer and leading to diabetes); could cause their obesity, their high blood pressure and his beer belly.   He then admitted that he had trouble sleeping.  That he wakes up at night and then can not get back to sleep.  He said he had anxiety problems but that if he had more money in the bank he would be sleeping better.

The fact is that both Renee and Mike are probably diabetic or pre-diabetic.  Further, they are not eating properly and thus are starved for nutrition.  Unfortunately, they will probably become seriously ill and then like good boys and girls go to the doctor for some useless medicines, creams and surgeries.

What can we learn from this?  BE YOUR OWN DOCTOR!  Use your common sense.  Learn about your body and how it really works.  And when you decide that you want true nutritional supplements buy them at my blog where I have the best products available.
