School will not accommodate disable boy
Permalink

My son is a 14 year old boy who has Cerebral Palsy ,Autism, Sensory Issues , hearing loss etc and is going into high school in September. I went to register him in his local high school.I was told there was no room for him in the life skills program which he really needs. So I said ok I will but him in a regular class in the school with a E.A and wait for a spot in the program to open. I got a call from the board of Education saying they will not accommodate my son and i would have to send him to another school 40 minutes away because he has sensory issues long rides on bus is a big problem for him and I explained that to them but it has fallin on deaf ears. I have been in this town for 15 years my taxes helped build this community and my son can't even go to his home school thats just wrong .He struggles threw daliy life as it is now he has to start his day with a stressed out bus ride.

This just isn't right

This is a very sensitive case more so we talking about DISABLED CHILD..if the school did really felt tha boy ve special needs they couldn't ve called you and do it over the phone.they could ve arrange for you to meet them..sit down and discuss the issue with you..yes there are many schools for kids with special needs..but the way they have dressed the matter have made you felt like your son was rejected which if i was also in your place i will feel the same way

Hi,

Approach the authorities who are in charge of education in your province and let them know about your plight,

and impress on them why the school must have, let also know that the facilities to aid his learning as well as his stay

at the school can be made available. This is very important to let them know because in curriculum planning, every child including those

with challenges in included in the plans. This child should not be an exception. Please, do not give up on your quest to give this child a good education that may also not be straining to his health.
