hindu is a word not found in the scriptures. comes from the word sindu the muslims called the people who lived by the sindu river hindu.the religion is sanatan dharma.

It is said that according to 'Brihaspathi Agama' the word 'Hindu' is derived from the first letter 'Hi' from the word ' Himalaya" and from the word " Indu" ( i. e. Indus river). Hence, Hindu = Hi + Indu. There is also a 'Shloka' which reads as under:

Himalayam samarbyayava dim du sarovaram 1

Thama deva nirmitham desham

Hindusthanam prachakshate 11

blankstareActualy HINDU sanskrit word ,Heenam  dushayathy means  which one is usless for our eternal life or unhealthy objects for our physical and mental (SOUL) livablity . another version is "HUMKARA" =tha sound of HUM means enjoying people  with the  sound of OMKAR

Hind means Beautifull In arabic, when arab people come in india and looking indian people and his culture and costumes so they called indian people "Hindu" That means beutifull !

 Hindu is the name giving by Alexander the Greatest to what was known to be the land indu china and indoeurope which is now called India.

in Alexander meaning it meant Darkness. now it means the one who worship the Cow or Cow worshiper believing that its the Cow who gives life and its the utmost reflection of nature. please correct me if am mistaken.
