As no one else has replied yet, I'll just say that the episode is in 1 Samuel, and seems to be in the area of Chapters 26 and 27. The latter begins with the words "And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than I should escape into the land of the Phillistines ..."
