What would you do If You Had A Slave Holding You?

I am the Great, Great Granddaughter of a Slave who lived to the sage age of 111 and hold me as an infant in a rare BLACK Historical 5 Generation Heirloom Family Portrait. I have been trying to get her lif story told and seek justice for her suffering but for 30 years none but a few will help me or hear my pleas. The State of Connecticut's General Assmbly has passed a precedence and got legislation passed Apologizing for Slavery and Senator Toni Harp one of the cosigners og the Resolution, will be presentiing it to me on August 29th at 3pm in front of the Slaveship, the Amistad, in New Haven CT and I find myself at a loss for words...am I sad, upset she was a Slave..? Am I elated for the long overdue Apology am I both sad and happy..? Am I pissed off at those who stole her and enslaved her..? Do I speak of words withou deeds is vicously without meaning?...WHAT?? Or do I turn the other cheek and say I forgive you as I feel the Slave may???have? Or do I seek her 40 acres and mule as promised but she nor I ever received? Blessings, Stella Antley for the Slave

I think the right response for you to take would be to take pride in your gt-gt-grandmother's story and the fact that you are an end product of such a story of survival against the odds.  Probably most of us have ancestors whose lives were hard so you don't need to feel too exceptional in that regard, although I realise that being a slave must have been a very hard fate to come to terms with.  One of the lessons of my own life is that we suffer stress when we are prevented from exercising a proper degree of freedom of choice; and of course slavery is the extreme end of that spectrum,

Why don't you 'serialise' your gt-gt-grandmother's story here on this thread.  As you post each part, I will proofread it so that it stands available for later publishing by somebody.

I'm afraid it has to be on this forum or not at all. I was assuming that you were using a PC (I'd forgotten about iPhones!). I'm in the U.K., by the way.
