why is keighley pronounced keefley and not keeley, unless it is the local accent

i am from down south but live in west yorkshire now. i know it would be

pronounced keeley down south as the gh woul be silent

Its not pronounced Keefly, Its just the way some "In-breds" talk,  they say there TH"s as FH"s.  Its pronounced KEITH-LEE, spelt Keithley, the Yorkshire direlect makes it sound like it should be spelt KEITH-LEH. Any road, welcome t north a country,best place in England tha nows,and we all talk reet !!!! May i suggest you look for a book written in yorkshire direlect, they dont half take some reading.

Interesting question Brenda. The only word I can think that has gh sound like an f is laugh. How and where the origin of the gh sound was created as a f replacement is a big LAUGH because I have no ideas.6aaaa
